Seasoned credit executive joins to advance Self’s mission of expanding access to credit

Self Financial, a credit-building platform focused on expanding access to credit, announced the appointment of Jeff Giacomi as Chief Credit Officer. A veteran credit risk executive, Giacomi will lead Self’s credit strategy, building on the company’s longstanding work in credit building and expanding access to credit. Self has spent more than a decade helping consumers establish and build credit.

“Credit building is the first step, not the finish line,” said James Garvey, founder and CEO of Self Financial. “Our members need more than a credit score. They need credit they can actually use. Jeff has spent his career figuring out how to extend credit responsibly to people who are often overlooked by traditional lenders, and his leadership will help shape where we’re taking Self next.”

Giacomi joins Self from Credit Key, a B2B fintech platform, where he served as Chief Credit Officer since 2025, overseeing credit strategy, underwriting and risk management for its point-of-sale lending business. Previously, he spent five years at Concora Credit, formerly Genesis Financial Solutions, where he was Senior Vice President of credit risk and pricing. Earlier, Giacomi was part of the executive leadership team at Deserve, an analytics-driven fintech credit card company later acquired by Intuit.

Across those roles, Giacomi has focused on using alternative data, cash-flow analysis, and data science to identify underserved, creditworthy consumers.

At Self, Giacomi will oversee credit strategy and risk management and strengthen how Self assesses members’ readiness for additional credit products.

Self offers a graduated set of products to build credit and expand access to credit: a Credit Builder Account to establish credit history while building savings for a credit card deposit or emergencies, the secured Self Visa® Credit Card to build a track record with real credit usage, and the Self Plus Credit Card, an unsecured credit card for members ready to move beyond a security deposit. Together, the products give consumers a way to build credit and progress toward unsecured credit.

“Self has already helped millions of people establish credit. The opportunity now is to increase our capabilities so more members can get credit,” said Giacomi. “I’m excited to help build the credit strategies and products that support Self’s mission to make credit accessible.”
