Harbor Capital Names Justin Portnoy Head of Outcomes

New role strengthens Harbor’s commitment to building outcome-oriented investment solutions designed around evolving client needs

Harbor Capital Advisors, Inc. (“Harbor”), an asset manager focused on delivering differentiated investment solutions, announced the appointment of Justin Portnoy as Head of Outcomes. In the newly created role, Portnoy will lead Harbor’s outcome-oriented investing platform and help shape the firm’s capabilities in an area where Harbor is seeing increased client demand. He will also serve as a Portfolio Manager supporting Harbor’s expanding suite of derivatives-based and outcome-oriented investment strategies.

Portnoy will be responsible for building out Harbor’s Outcomes pillar, working across Investments, Product and Distribution to identify investor needs – seeking to translate those needs into thoughtfully engineered investment approaches, developing investment insights and portfolio-construction perspectives that will help serve to support the platform. His mandate will draw on more than two decades of experience across derivatives trading, structuring, sales and risk management, including options, swaps, systematic strategies and complex cross-asset implementations.

“Outcome-oriented investing starts with the investor problem, not the product. As clients ask us for more precise ways to help their end clients accumulate and pursue wealth accumulation and manage portfolio risk, we believe there is a significant opportunity to engineer investment experiences around clearer objectives and more intentional portfolio behavior,” said Kristof Gleich, President and Chief Investment Officer, Harbor Capital Advisors. “Justin is exceptionally well suited to lead this work. He has spent his career understanding how derivatives behave across market environments, how sophisticated strategies are built and risk-managed, and, importantly, how those tools can be translated into practical solutions for investors. That combination of technical depth, market judgment and client orientation makes him the right person to build Harbor’s Outcomes platform.”

Building Harbor’s Outcomes Platform

Harbor defines outcome-oriented strategies as investment approaches engineered for a narrower or more predictable behavior of investment results, rather than primarily seeking alpha relative to a common benchmark. The emphasis is on designing an investment experience around an intended objective and evaluating success based on delivery versus stated outcome parameters, implementation quality and investor fit.

Harbor’s commitment to Outcomes reflects growing demand from advisors and investors for portfolio solutions that begin with the experience a client is trying to achieve. For wealth advisors, that can mean having additional tools to address the path toward future wealth accumulation while maintaining a clear connection between portfolio design, expected behavior and client objectives.

Investor adoption of strategies designed around more intentional portfolio behavior has expanded meaningfully. Across derivative income, defined outcome, and multi-asset overlay plus systematic trend strategies, assets increased from approximately $26 billion at year-end 2021 to approximately $283 billion as of August 31, 2026, according to Harbor.
