New application platform bundles Matera’s real-time ledger, X9.150 Secure Payment QR and custody integrations into a single, lightweight extension of the core banking systems institutions already run.
Matera, a leading provider of modern banking technology, announced the launch of Matera Workspace, an extensible application platform that allows banks and credit unions to offer stablecoins, crypto and other digital assets side by side with fiat – without replacing their core banking system.

“Banks aren’t short on interest in digital assets – they’re short on a way to start that doesn’t begin with a core replacement and an eighteen-month business case.”
Every bank evaluating digital assets discovers the same challenge: the token is the easy part. What’s hard is everything around it – where the balance lives, who the counterparty is when a customer buys, and whether the ledger still balances at day’s end. Matera Workspace was built to solve that.
At the center of Workspace is Digital Twin, Matera’s real-time ledger already running instant payments in production today. Digital Twin holds every asset – US dollars, euros, stablecoins, crypto and tokenized instruments – as a balance with equal standing, so a bank can present USDC next to US dollars in the same account view, without a separate “crypto tab.”
Workspace bundles Digital Twin with Matera’s X9.150 Secure Payment QR and ready-made custody integrations – including the market’s leading custody providers – tied to a bank’s existing core through one lightweight integration. Because the components ship together, institutions review one vendor relationship instead of stitching together a ledger, custody provider, payment QR and trade engine separately. A working pilot can go live in about one hour, with no core migration and nothing to remove if a project doesn’t move forward.
“Banks aren’t short on interest in digital assets – they’re short on a way to start that doesn’t begin with a core replacement and an eighteen-month business case. Workspace removes the first step as an obstacle: there’s nothing to rip out, nothing to migrate, and nothing to unwind if a pilot doesn’t earn its place. That changes the question from ‘can we afford to try this?’ to ‘what do we launch first?’” said Carlos Netto, co-founder and CEO North America of Matera.
Workspace also includes a trade engine where customers transact directly with the bank rather than a marketplace, keeping every trade inside the institution’s existing regulatory posture. The platform is designed to be extended by the bank itself, through a declarative screen builder and AI-authored workflows, so new products can be built on top of Workspace without starting from scratch.
