Piermont Bank and BlxckPay Announce a New Model of Bank-Fintech Partnership Connecting Business Banking and Workforce Payments

Piermont Bank and BlxckPay Announce a New Model of Bank-Fintech Partnership Connecting Business Banking and Workforce Payments

Full-service employer bank accounts and employee payroll cards bring a more complete financial stack to SMBs and specialized sectors, including agriculture.

Piermont Bank today announced a partnership with BlxckPay designed to connect the banking needs of small and midsize businesses with the payroll needs of their employees. Through the partnership, Piermont will support BlxckPay’s employer customers with full-service business bank accounts and support their employees through payroll cards, bringing business banking and workforce payments into a coordinated financial operations offering.

The partnership introduces a model built around the businesses and people a fintech serves. Piermont brings commercial banking capabilities and client service, while BlxckPay brings payroll technology and experience serving employers with seasonal and distributed workforces. Together, the companies aim to help SMBs manage business funds and pay their employees through a more connected bank–fintech relationship.

“The next generation of bank–fintech partnerships should start with a deeper understanding of the customer’s business needs—not simply their banking needs,” said Wendy Cai-Lee, Founder and CEO of Piermont Bank. “At Piermont, we start by understanding the business, identifying the pain points that can get in the way of growth and efficiency, and then looking at where financial services can be part of the solution. With BlxckPay, we are connecting the employer’s business needs with the employee’s payroll needs to solve a broader business challenge. This is what we believe makes embedded banking powerful: it is not about solving a banking pain point; it is about using banking as a tool to solve a customer’s business pain point.”

The model is particularly relevant to specialized sectors such as agriculture, where employers may manage seasonal hiring, multiple work locations and recurring payroll demands. Full-service business accounts will support employers’ day-to-day banking needs, while payroll cards will provide employees with a way to receive wages and access their pay. Bringing these services together is intended to simplify the financial operations surrounding the employer–employee relationship.

BlxckPay focuses on payroll solutions for employers with H-2A and H-2B workforces, including farms and other businesses that depend on seasonal labor. The partnership will expand the relationship beyond payroll distribution to address the broader banking needs of those employers.

“Our customers need financial services that understand both their operations and their workforce,” said Luis VĂ©lez, CEO of BlxckPay. “Partnering with Piermont allows us to pair our payroll capabilities with full-service business banking, creating a more complete offering for the employers we serve and the people who work for them.”

For Piermont, the partnership reflects a strategy of building bank–fintech relationships around shared customer needs and industry expertise. By connecting business accounts with employee payroll access, Piermont and BlxckPay are laying the foundation for a fuller financial operations stack for SMBs, one that links the business’s banking relationship to an essential part of its daily operations.
