Patreon, an early adopter of Chargehound’s automated chargeback solution, uses the revenue recovery tool to protect creators from the impact of friendly fraud.
Chargehound, the only fully automated chargeback solution on the market, today announced it has completed a custom integration with Patreon to automate all of its Checkout.com chargebacks. This integration, leveraging Checkout.com’s API, will enable Patreon, the leading membership platform for creatives, to recover millions of dollars from friendly fraud chargebacks with zero additional operating or capital expenses.

Patreon, a longtime customer of Chargehound, has already seen immense value from automating its Stripe, Braintree, and PayPal disputes with Chargehound. In the first two years of the partnership, Patreon was able to increase its revenue recovery from chargebacks by 2.5x with zero hours of manual work.
“Patreon is ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting technology that enables its community of creators to come first. As one of the first merchants in the U.S. to adopt chargeback automation technology, Patreon understood early on how impactful using Chargehound would be for their business,” said Pallavi Kuppa-Apte, Chief Operating Officer of Chargehound. “Leveraging Checkout.com’s API to build an integration with Patreon was a natural extension of the seamless partnership we’ve shared for years. We’re excited to potentially invite more merchants to use Chargehound for Checkout.com disputes in the future.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Patreon’s business has grown immensely as creators across the globe began looking for ways to continue to make and fund art during shelter-in-place and the resulting economic uncertainty. With that growth in business, chargebacks have grown in parallel, requiring additional employee resources to manage them. Adding the ability to automate Checkout.com disputes through Chargehound has allowed the team to allocate employee resources to more strategic fraud management.

“Chargehound has been an incredible partner over the last four years. As Patreon has grown, Chargehound has evolved alongside us and this custom integration with our payment service provider, Checkout.com, is just one example of that,” said Jacqueline Hart, Head of Trust and Safety at Patreon. “Our work with Chargehound has improved our bottom line, supported our growth, and helped us deliver on our mission of creating a community where creators can reliably get paid for the art they create, without ever having to worry about a chargeback.”
Checkout.com’s Lindsay Walker, SVP of Customer Success added, “At Checkout.com we’ve built a framework to unlock the potential of connected payments; this means building a platform with developer-friendly APIs and a comprehensive suite of integrations. We’re pleased that Chargehound has been able to automate the process of chargebacks and ultimately improve performance for our merchant, Patreon. We look forward to building on this partnership to unlock more value for merchants.”
