Digital Bank Oxygen Announces SVP, Head of Finance & Corporate Development

Airende Ojeomogha has joined the Oxygen leadership team as SVP, Head of Finance & Corporate Development to help build out the function at a pivotal point in the company’s rise, bringing with him a wealth of experience gained from a number of roles in global finance spanning fintech, consulting, investing and investment banking.

When asked about what drew him to the company, he stated, “I was drawn to Oxygen for a few reasons: the customers, the product and the team,” says Ojeomogha, adding, “Team really isn’t the right word, we’re a family, comprised of some of the most intelligent, hardworking, and caring individuals I’ve ever worked with.”

Prior to joining Oxygen, Ojeomogha was Head of Financial Planning & Analysis at Tally, a San Francisco based fintech that provides credit products to US consumers, where he focused on strategic planning, capital allocation, customer acquisition and credit risk analysis, among other duties. Apart from the team, Ojeomogha counts personal experience volunteering for a creative project in Los Angeles that connected luxury brands with creatives/ creators, the exact segment Oxygen is building for.

“I was struck by how many wanted to be paid in cash” says Ojeomogha, adding “ I wondered if they had no bank activity, how would they get credit and other financial services?” When asked why they didn’t want to get paid via a bank transfer they responded “We don’t trust traditional banks – they have terrible customer service and lots of hidden fees.” So when he saw what Oxygen was doing, he was intrigued.

“When I dug into the Oxygen product and saw they were serving this segment with no monthly or hidden fees, with a beautiful product that helped them run their finances, it was a no-brainer for me [to join],” said Ojeomogha.

Hussein Ahmed, founder and CEO of Oxygen, is equally as excited for Ojeomogha to join the team. “Airende is a world class operator and finance leader, and we are lucky to have him on the team. We have big ambitions, and his expertise will help us get to where we want to go,” adding “he clearly brings a wealth of expertise, but he’s equally sold on the vision. For me, that was it.”

Prior to Tally, Ojeomogha worked at LinkedIn, where he supported one of the fastest growing lines of business representing over $1 billion in annual revenue. Earlier in his career, he held a number of finance leadership roles including at Deloitte, where he developed quantitative risk and fraud models for some of the largest US based financial institutions, as well as Shinnecock Partners and UBS, where he focused on Quantitative Investments and Investment Banking, respectively.

“I joined Oxygen because I saw a very futuristic way of looking at improving the customer experience through technology. I believe in 10 years Artificial Intelligence (AI) will democratize and increase access to finance for a new economy, and I was excited by what they were doing in that area. We’re changing banking as we know it today.”

Ojeomogha holds a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering from Covenant University, an MSc in Finance from Grenoble École de Management – Grenoble Graduate School of Business, an MSc in Financial Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley – Haas School of Business and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
