Payroll can be painful for small businesses, with owners and managers relying on manual processes and multiple systems to prep payroll runs. The new Payroll Assistant automatically detects and resolves timecard issues such as missed breaks, late punches, or missing clock-outs, prompting employees to make quick fixes before they turn into payroll errors. It provides a clean, easy-to-review summary for managers, eliminating the need to dig through timecards, and will soon include AI-powered insights that go beyond spreadsheets to help owners understand what’s driving labor costs, payroll errors, and compliance risks — with clear, tailored actions to take.

With Payroll Assistant, business owners and managers are better able to:

  • Prevent timecard and clock-out errors before payroll runs
  • Get a clean, easy-to-review summary
  • Optimize labor spend with real-time visibility into costs and compliance risks
  • Prompt employees to fix missed punches before they become payroll errors

“Payroll has always been a pain point for small businesses, with multiple systems and manual steps,” said John Waldmann, CEO of Homebase. “Homebase’s suite of AI Assistants, including our new Payroll Assistant, helps flag and resolve issues before they become errors, simplify the work, and build confidence at every step. Our Payroll Assistant will help Homebase achieve our broader goal of saving small businesses 100M hours in the coming year, time that can be reinvested back to their businesses, teams, and communities.

In the past year, Homebase users logged 1.2 billion hours worked across time sheets for 3.5 million employees. Customers of Homebase Payroll already save five hours each month by combining payroll, scheduling, and time tracking in one platform. Beta customers of the Payroll Assistant save nearly two additional hours each month, for a total time savings of 80 hours, or two work weeks a year, when using Homebase Payroll.
