Rugged cases now equipped with integrated payment devices ready for high-use, mobile payments in the retail industry
MagTek, a leading world supplier of secure payment technology, and MobileDemand, a leading provider of rugged tablets and mobile computing solutions for enterprise productivity, announce the integration of MagTek’s iDynamo 6, a secure card reader authenticator, with MobileDemand’s Microsoft Surface xCase for Retail. The combination is built for durability and reliability for merchants and service providers that target outdoor and indoor mobile, secured payment station environments.
The way consumers want to make payments is ever changing. For retailers and service providers, being able to offer multiple, easy ways to pay reduces friction, enhances the consumer experience, and can increase overall spend. High-end retail and concierge shopping, small mom and pop shops with limited staff, and merchants that want to offer mobility in payments need to offer flexibility. Adding a mobile payment option and a stand-alone self-service kiosk, can increase sales while combatting reduced staffing issues.

Service providers such as insurance sales representatives, plumbers, electricians, and tow truck companies benefit from being able to accept payments at the point of service instead of relying on billing or calling in payments. In these environments, it is critical to have a payment device that is rugged and mobile.
An innovative leader in the rugged tablet space, MobileDemand, specializing in productivity-enhancing add-ons and mounting solutions, recently expanded into mobile point of sale options. Payment modules are attached or integrated into a rugged tablet or case, enabling MobileDemand to offer a robust mobile point of sale solution ready for independent software vendors and point of sale developers to create applications for situations that were thought untenable.
“In recent years it became clear that there needs to be an option for point-of-sale solutions to be mobile and not fixed to a countertop,” said Scott Medford, VP of Sales at MobileDemand. “Our rugged tablets and cases are engineered to accommodate an ever-increasing number of add-ons and accessories. We wanted to add a payment device to meet the needs of modern retail. We previously worked with MagTek to integrate the tDynamo with our rugged xTablet T1190 and found frontline workers trusted the powerful combination, with MagTek providing card security and MobileDemand providing device security.”
MagTek is focused on manufacturing reliable, flexible, and secure payment hardware devices and offering gateway services through Magensa, a subsidiary. By coupling MagTek hardware with Magensa Gateway Services, ISVs have the added benefit of using Magensa’s L3 certified solutions, along with free and easily accessible software developer kits and APIs. This simplifies development efforts, reduces overall spend, and secures payments from the point of interaction. Magensa Gateway services also enable in-app, online, and in-person payments creating more value and security to the payment application.

“MobileDemand is recognized as a leader in the enclosure industry,” said Andy Deignan, Vice President of Global Marketing and Strategy at MagTek. “By adding a payment device to their tablet enclosures, they now offer a more robust solution with payment flexibility and simplified integration with Magensa, further enabling ISVs to achieve faster go to market capabilities.”
The iDynamo 6, a mobile secure card reader authenticator, connects via USB-C to Android, iOS, and Windows mobile devices or thru Lightning connection to iOS devices. iDynamo 6 accepts mobile wallet payments like Apple Pay and Google Pay, NFC and EMV contactless, EMV contact chip, and magnetic stripe payments.
MobileDemand’s rugged Surface Go xCase for Retail, currently in the Designed for Surface approval process, paired with the iDynamo 6, uniquely routes the USB cable through the case. This important feature allows the USB to plug directly into the module and not the tablet, mitigating damage to both the iDynamo 6 and Surface Go in the event of accidental drops. The direct connection also combats issues with wireless connectivity that can happen in the field. MobileDemand’s patented Snap Mount System is included to accommodate both mobile and stationary point of sale options.
