Financial Data Exchange Releases FDX API 4.6

Increased API scope for North American open finance standards include credit management, payment services infrastructure and more than 600 unique financial data elements

The Financial Data Exchange (FDX) has announced its Spring release of FDX API 4.6 including enhanced payment services, coverage of over 600 unique financial data elements, and a new Credit Management use case that will allow consumers to share and use their own financial data through the FDX API with applications covering lending and credit scoring.

“By any metric, the FDX API is now the most robust open finance API in the world”

“FDX’s Spring release represents a further maturation of our industry-led FDX API and a deepening of financial industry collaboration on consumer financial data sharing standards,” said FDX Managing Director Don Cardinal. “By any metric, the FDX API is now the most robust open finance API in the world,” added Cardinal.

FDX releases updates to its API every Spring and Fall after extensive working sessions of its global financial industry membership to identify and develop enhancements and updates to the API in line with market demand. FDX recently reported membership of almost 190 firms and announced that 16 million consumer accounts are currently using the FDX API for financial data sharing in the U.S. and Canada.

The new components of the FDX Spring release include:

  • FDX API 4.6 – This latest version of FDX API completes FDX’s payment services infrastructure and includes full functionality for money movement like bill pay and internal transfers. In addition, the FDX API now covers over 620 unique financial data elements that consumers can share and use, including the most comprehensive API coverage available for financial rewards data like credit card points, financial relationship points and credit-oriented airline miles.
  • Credit Management Use Case 1.0 – This new FDX use case defines minimum required data needed for credit management and servicing applications and accelerates the replacement of physical document requirements with digital data. Such applications include verification of account, deposit, employment and assets and use in mortgage and non-mortgage lending, cash flow analysis, fraud prevention, lender underwriting and other credit scoring and modeling applications.
  • Taxonomy of Permissioned Data Sharing 1.1 – FDX has tripled its common data sharing terminology in version 1.1 as a result of the API’s expanded scope and use cases. The Taxonomy of Permissioned Data Sharing v1.1 seeks to align industry stakeholders, regulators and policymakers around common terms that define the various roles and processes within consumer data sharing.
  • Certification Model for Data Providers 1.0 – FDX certification will launch by the end of 2021 to ensure all implementations of the FDX API are accurate and secure. This certification model establishes the foundation and methodology for data providers to eventually seek FDX certification for all FDX API integrations.
  • FDX API Security Model v 3.3 – Security is at the core of FDX’s work and version 3.3 defines security specifications for secure end-user permissioning for financial data sharing, identification of intermediaries, and maintaining security of data in transit.

“Financial services innovation is not slowing down and neither are our members,” said Dinesh Katyal, FDX’s Director of Product. “FDX API 4.6 represents months of work by FDX members across the financial industry spectrum and will ultimately benefit consumers by giving them a more consistent, secure and familiar data sharing experience,” added Katyal.
