First Derivatives Hires Sean Andany as Head of Data

First Derivatives today announces the appointment of Sean Andany as Head of Data.

With 25 years of experience, Sean brings to First Derivatives a wealth of experience in data and analytics, specifically in relation to cloud and Big Data technologies and has extensive financial services knowledge, having led large-scale global data projects for a number of tier 1 retail and investment banks including HSBC, Deutsche Bank and Barclays.

At First Derivatives, Sean will drive the data services business line that will assist clients by accelerating the way they collect, record and consume data, in order to enable their transformation into fully data-driven organisations.

In his most recent role, Sean was Head of Data working directly for the CDO of Astra Zeneca, where he was responsible for the strategy and build-out of the CDO function to deliver a comprehensive Data ecosystem across the firm. Leading the development of the Data Engineering and Data Operations (DataOps) teams, Sean oversaw several critical technology projects utilising cloud-based machine learning, advanced analytics, and the establishment of a firm-wide Data Governance function. Prior to this, Sean spent a number of years at HSBC as Head of Data in the Retail & Wealth Division, where he led the delivery of key Data & Analytics programs on behalf of the Retail and Global CDO.

Sean started his career as a developer and worked for a number of the world’s leading investment banks, including Barclays Capital where he was most recently CTO for European & Middle East (EMEA) Technology and CTO for the Markets Division at Absa Capital. In his new role at FD, he will focus on developing the data services business line across three practice area of Data Management, Data Engineering and Data Science.
