UnionPay International (UPI) announced the launch of its largest promotion campaign for the coming shopping season, which includes the 12.12 shopping festival. If paying with UnionPay cards or the UnionPay App at 1,000 online marketplaces, shoppers may get a price as good as 62% of the original as a result of extra discounts on top of the offers provided by various platforms.
UnionPay card, a preferred payment tool for outbound Chinese travelers, has become increasingly popular among cross-border shoppers. The UnionPay acceptance network has covered over 22 million e-commerce merchants in more than 200 countries and regions outside the Chinese mainland. In particular, extensive acceptance has been enabled for online retail, which saw over 10% of growth in transaction volume this year.

Consumers can pay directly by entering their UnionPay card number at nearly 1,000 major international e-commerce merchants such as Amazon and eBay. Several luxury fashion e-commerce platforms, including Mytheresa, also allow checkouts through PayPal enrolled with UnionPay cards. Other online retailers, such as Lifemall, make the experience more seamless by “emerging” into the UnionPay App.
UPI has leveraged its advantages in the acceptance network and joined hands with banks, merchants, and websites of cross-border shopper’s guides at home and abroad to roll out a range of offers including instant discounts, threshold discounts, and cash rebates. Participating merchants include big names such as Amazon、iHerb、Mytheresa、and King Power, as well as boutique merchants such as Vitacost, ANA Cargo Direct, and Theory. Most of the offers will be available through the Lunar New Year.
