New in-app experience powered by MoonPay brings more efficient checkouts to eligible BitPay Wallet users in 100+ countries
BitPay, the world’s longest-operating cryptocurrency payments company, introduced a new one tap crypto buying experience in the BitPay Wallet, allowing eligible users to make more efficient cryptocurrency purchases with Apple Pay, Google Pay, cards, and SEPA for EU users. Powered by MoonPay, the in-app checkout is available on iOS and Android devices in 100+ countries, including the United States and supported countries across the European Union.
Mobile payments have become second nature to the retail sector. With this update, BitPay brings that familiarity to buying crypto, with fewer screens between choosing an asset and confirming a purchase. For first-time and power users alike, buying crypto now follows the same pattern they already use to pay for everything else.
“You can buy pizza in one tap. Now you can buy bitcoin the same way,” said Stephen Pair, CEO and co-founder at BitPay. “After 15 years in this industry, we know friction is what stops first-time buyers, whether it be from declined cards, unfamiliar flows, and too many screens, so we are taking those obstacles off the table.”
The checkout opens directly inside the BitPay Wallet with the asset, purchase amount, and preferred payment method pre-filled based on user preferences. With Apple Pay or Google Pay, users confirm payment using their device’s supported authentication method without manually entering payment details. Returning MoonPay customers are logged in automatically; new customers complete a one-time signup and identity verification, then are set for future buys.

“MoonPay Headless Onramps let users tap, confirm, and the crypto lands. We believe that money should move that simply,” said Andres Lamothe, Executive Director of Partnerships & GTM at MoonPay. “We’re proud to be part of the infrastructure underneath BitPay’s continued dedication to the best user experience.”
The new checkout experience runs alongside the BitPay Wallet’s existing multi-provider buy experience, which automatically compares live rates from BitPay’s on-ramp partners to show users the best available offer for their country and payment method.
Purchased crypto is delivered directly to the user’s self-custody wallet in the BitPay app and users hold their keys and decide how to manage their assets. The BitPay Wallet combines self-custody storage with buying, selling, swapping, P2P transactions, and spending at merchants and on gift cards.
