U.S. News Best Investing Platforms Methodology

Over 1,800 points of data were collected for 36 investing platforms under five factors: fees, product and account offerings, usability, research and tools, and customer support. For certain categories, additional data points were collected; for instance, robo advisors were evaluated for factors such as access to human advisors and tax strategy availability, and cryptocurrency trading platforms were graded based on number of coins available and transferability to external wallets.

The U.S. News team collected this data in January and February 2024 by reviewing each investing platform’s website. Then, the U.S. News editorial and data teams evaluated the data and developed a scoring system that would serve as the basis for the star ratings found on each investing platform’s respective review.
