STS Digital Launches Smart Bitcoin, Expanding Its Structured Products Offering with Quantitative Investment Strategies

Rules-based systematic strategies for institutional digital asset markets beginning with Smart Bitcoin, a volatility-target strategy

STS Digital, a Bermuda Monetary Authority regulated principal trading firm specialised  in institutional digital asset derivatives, announced the launch of its Quantitative Investment Strategies (QIS) offering – rules-based, systematically executed derivatives strategies across spot, options and other derivatives, available to professional and institutional clients.

Each QIS strategy follows a methodology defined in advance, covering asset selection, rebalancing and risk parameters; STS Digital exercises no discretionary investment judgment within the strategies. Strategies are available through OTC derivatives instruments built on STS Digital’s regulated structured products infrastructure, spanning a universe of more than 400 digital assets.

From Bitcoin to Smart Bitcoin

The flagship strategy at launch is Smart Bitcoin, a volatility target strategy. Rather than holding a fixed Bitcoin position, Smart Bitcoin adjusts exposure against a defined volatility target: when market volatility rises, the strategy systematically reduces exposure, and when volatility falls, it increases it. The result is an allocation whose risk level is calibrated toward a consistent target rather than left to move with the market. Volatility targeting is a long-established technique in systematic strategies, used for decades in index-linked products and institutional portfolios in traditional markets.

“Institutional clients keep asking the same question, how do we hold Bitcoin without inheriting the full swing of its volatility?” says Maxime Seiler, CEO and Co-Founder of STS Digital. “Smart Bitcoin answers that with a technique traditional markets have relied on for decades. The strategy targets a defined level of risk and adjusts Bitcoin exposure systematically as volatility moves, so allocators get exposure with a risk profile they can plan around. That is what we mean by Smart Bitcoin: not a view on the price, but discipline in how to get exposure.”

As institutional clients increasingly diversify risk, both across asset classes and within digital assets themselves, STS Digital is developing a broader range of systematic strategies to meet that demand, from currency-debasement hedging to options-based income, with further launches to follow.

Systematic by Design

A QIS strategy applies a systematic methodology with strictly defined risk parameters and rebalancing constraints, accessible to clients through bilateral OTC transactions with STS as principal counterparty. Unlike traditional structured products, which typically carry a fixed maturity and a defined payoff, QIS strategies are rules-based, systematically executed and transparently priced.

The methodologies are not limited to spot exposure. Drawing on STS Digital’s core options and derivatives business, QIS strategies can reference derivatives-based approaches, from systematic option overlays such as covered calls to volatility strategies and defined-outcome structures, all executed under the same predefined rules.

“QIS is about turning a market thesis into a repeatable process,” said Jeremy Dominh, Head of Structured Products and QIS at STS Digital. “We establish the methodology, risk parameters and rebalancing rules upfront, then execute systematically. That consistency and transparency is exactly what institutional clients entering digital assets are asking for.”

Designed for Institutional Access

Institutional clients can be onboarded directly by STS Digital and access QIS through its platform, via UI, API and voice.

The QIS offering is delivered under STS Digital’s DABA Class F licence, issued by the Bermuda Monetary Authority.

Smart Bitcoin is not about making Bitcoin more complicated. It is about making the approach smarter.
